German-UAE College of Logistics (GUCL)
UAE authorities in collaboration with Higher Colleges of Technology communicated their interest to establish a specialized degree course in the Emirates in cooperation with German partner universities leading to specialist knowledge in logistics.
In response the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) invited a number of renowned German Universities of Applied Science to form a consortium that meets the requirements to establish a German-style education program in the Emirates in partnership with Higher Colleges of Technology which focuses on comprehensive knowledge of logistics operations.
GUCL is introduced as the first college of this kind to deliver top German higher education in the UAE. Logistics training, as practiced at German universities, is so far not present in the region, although highly needed.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to establish education in the fields of supply chain management and logistics according to German quality standards to produce internationally recognized professionals possessing fundamental and specialized knowledge as well as practical skills resulting in attractive career opportunities.
Why United Arab Emirates?
Strategically located between Europe and Asia UAE's crossroads attract trade people from the whole of Eurasia, the Indian subcontinent, Africa and the CIS that way becoming the region's unchallenged logistics hub.
Transportation, supply chain management, warehousing and trade are highlighted as some of UAE's strengths for future growth.
To achieve their goals UAE need not only an efficient corporate infrastructure but even more a well educated and internationally experienced work force.
Cooperation
Political approach
From the very beginning the project had strong political impact and rates high among authorities in UAE and Germany. Such cooperation can help not only to produce skilled professionals for the UAE economy, but also to secure jobs both in Germany and UAE.

Practical approach
Industry internships are considered a fundamental and integral part of each degree course enabling comprehensive training of logistic operations and management practices in the relevant day-to-day business environment and the development of professional soft skills.
For students this approach will offer a twofold opportunity: to participate in a local industry internship in the UAE logistics sector, and furthermore, to complete an international internship at logistics companies in Germany.
Industrial Cooperation
The course has the potential and full support to build a gateway between Europe and the UAE in terms of academic and industrial relations.
The Labour Market Survey underlines the importance of establishing strong relations between GUCL and the industry.
